This is
Debashish Bhattacharya's first release in several years where I have no gribble of any sort or shape, whatsoever. His 1992, 1997 and 2000 discs for India Archive Music affected me similarly. Maybe that is down to him having contributed to a variety of cross-cultural projects where I felt and believed that has playing edge was dulled: his work with
Mark A. Humphrey and Bob Brozman never entirely clicked with me.
Martin Simpson, one of the greatest guitarists of our age, disagrees with me when it comes to Bhattacharya's plying. Such is the cut and thrust of debate. But then what do I know about guitar playing and what does Simpson know of Hindustani music? The deal is feeling.
There is everything to love about this album. I have absolutely no reservations about it. It is a milestone in musically nutritious improvised music in 2005.
